Biological Therapies occupies more than 2,000 square metres of factory space which includes separate sterile and non sterile manufacturing facilities, chemical, microbiological and research and development laboratories, dispatch area, warehousing and administration offices. The company currently employs around 20 staff. The early history of Biological Therapies dates back to 1972. As a result of research conducted by Dr. Glen Dettman and Dr. Archie Kalokerinos it became apparent that there was a need for high doses of injectable Vitamin supplements. These two pioneering Australians conducted their research amongst Aboriginal populations where the death rate was reduced from every second child to zero with the use of high doses of injectable Vitamin C. Dr. Dettman commenced manufacture of injectable vitamins in his pathology premises. Subsequently, Dr Ian Dettman introduced a range of injectable Vitamin products, along with several patents concerning their production. In 1988 the manufacturing facilities were substantially expanded into a 200 square metre facility. To this day this facility is dedicated to sterile manufacturing a range of injectable nutritional supplements and also manufacture of oral powders, tablets and liquids. Research Funding and Vitamin C Drs. Glen and Ian Dettman received funding from the Linus Pauling Institiute in the USA to carry out research looking at the levels of vitamin C in relation to disease. The evidence for the efficacy of Vitamin C therapeutically is overwhelming, in response Biological Therapies manufactures a very high quality range of parenteral and oral Vitamin C nutritional supplements.
