Effect of oral suplementation of vitamin C on intestinal anastomotic resistance
Petroianu A, Alberti LR. Effect of oral suplementation of vitamin C on
intestinal anastomotic resistance. Rev Col Bras Cir. 2011 Feb;38(1):54-58.
English, Portuguese. PubMed PMID: 21537744
The rats that received vitamin C had higher anastomotic bursting pressure in
the fifth, seventh and 28th postoperative days. The same happened with the
bursting pressures of intact jejunal segments.

Does prophylactic therapy with antioxidant vitamins have an effect on atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery?
Rasoli S, Kourliouros A, Harling L, Athanasiou T. Does prophylactic therapy
with antioxidant vitamins have an effect on atrial fibrillation following
cardiac surgery? Interact Cardiovasc Thorac Surg. 2011 Apr 26. [Epub ahead

Two of the studies show that prophylactic treatment with adjuvant vitamin C
and beta-blockers is more effective than beta-blocker therapy alone. The
quality of these studies was assessed using a Jadad scor ing system, which
identified four of the studies to be of low and one to be of high
methodological quality.
Vitamin C status is related to proinflammatory responses and impaired vascular endothelial function in healthy, college-aged lean and obese men
Mah E, Matos MD, Kawiecki D, Ballard K, Guo Y, Volek JS, Bruno RS. Vitamin C
status is related to proinflammatory responses and impaired vascular
endothelial function in healthy, college-aged lean and obese men. J Am Diet
Assoc. 2011 May;111(5):737-43. PubMed PMID: 21515122
These data suggest that low vitamin C status is associated with
proinflammatory responses and impaired vascula r function in lean and obese
men.

gliadin in coeliac disease patients. Allergol Immunopathol (Madr). 2011 Mar

Gliadin-challenge induced IL-15 production in biopsies from treated CD
patients, while the addition of ascorbat e to culture medium completely
inhibited IL-15 production.
